Lemurs
Different circuits offer different chances to see lemurs feeding, resting, calling or leaping — including Decken’s sifaka, Rufous Brown lemurs, Bemaraha sportive lemurs, Peter’s mouse lemur and Western bamboo lemurs.
The Tsingy de Bemaraha began as an ancient coral reef beneath a tropical sea. Over immense spans of time, tectonic forces lifted this seabed high above the landscape. Rain, underground water, wind and erosion then sculpted the uplifted limestone into razor-sharp pinnacles, deep canyons, caves, sinkholes and hidden forest corridors.
In Malagasy, “Tsingy” means “where one cannot walk barefoot” — a place where people move on tip-toe across the stone. It is the perfect name for this dramatic labyrinth of rock, light and life. Today it is not only spectacular geology, but a living sanctuary where dry forest, cliffs, river gorges and limestone microhabitats support rare species found nowhere else on Earth.
Between limestone pinnacles, caves, dry forest and river corridors, life has adapted in extraordinary ways. Each habitat protects rare animals and plants, many found nowhere else on Earth.

The birdlife is exceptional, with 103 recorded species — including the endemic Tsingy wood rail, Schlegel’s asity, giant coua, kingfishers, herons and many dry-forest birds.
The massif shelters 87 reptile species and 34 amphibian species — chameleons, geckos, boas, skinks and frogs living between limestone cracks, caves, riversides and seasonal forest pools.
Carnivores include the fossa, ring-tailed vontsira and mongoose relatives. Antsingy plant formations include more than 830 species, including Pachypodium and aromatic Commiphora trees.
